
If the intent of the article was to deal with the issue of the lack of diversity in the Court of Appeals, and the way that the nominating and appointing process considers such issues, then it failed miserably. The article in essence argues that skin color and ethnicity has trumped merit in the most recent nomination process for judges to the Court of Appeals.

As members of the Board of Directors of the Puerto Rican Bar Association, the oldest ethnic bar association in New York State, established in 1957, we write to bring to your attention the March 11th article, “Quest for Diversity Triggers Debate Over Role of Race, Gender in Judicial Selection Process,” which those of us in the legal profession, who care about fairness and true diversity in our judicial system, found highly offensive.
